Developing Life Skills Through Music

![]() RowanWe moved away a week or two before lockdown and Jo kindly organised online lessons so my daughter could continue for her up and coming exam. Then Covid happened and we have been online ever since. I believe face to face is better than online, however my daughter really enjoys her lessons with Jo and the relationship between pupil and tutor is paramount. Jo is incredibly encouraging, patient and generally a very good piano tutor. I highly recommend her! | ![]() ScarlettMy daughter's love for the piano, is solely down to Jo and her excellent teaching. Jo is a wonderful and talented piano teacher - her patience, enthusiasm and inspiration makes every lesson hugely enjoyable for my daughter who really looks forward to her lessons each week. (Alexandra) | ![]() HenryJo is a fantastic teacher, she has been teaching my son over several years and has been so patient and kind. She ensures children make progression but at their own pace, making playing fun and engaging. We have particularly liked the online piano concerts, where everyone gets to play a piece or two of their choice, regardless of level. I recommend Jo as a piano teacher! (Catherine) |

![]() JaneJo’s calm, patient and friendly approach was exactly what I needed as an adult with no previous musical experience whatsoever. I’ve made great progress with Jo and she has the ability to put me at my ease, adapting her teaching style to suit my needs and offering lots of encouragement along the way. I only wish I had started learning the piano with Jo sooner in life! (Jane J) | ![]() Fionnan & DearbhlaJo’s teaching style is friendly, patient and engaging. Both our children has been taking piano lessons with Jo for several years and really enjoy their weekly sessions with her. (Luke) | ![]() Alana & AbigailYou have truly inspired their piano playing love and they always come back ready to practise what you have taught them, and what amazes me the most is that they retain that! They speak highly of their time with you and cannot wait for their next lesson. The confidence they have reading music is amazing and that is all you. Your feedback/feedforward method is very motivating. I am certain they will continue to play as they get older. Thank you so much! (Pauline) |
![]() Romilly, Tegan & JoelyJo has taught piano to all three of my children for a number of years now. Jo treats each one as an individual, gets to know them personally, and manages to figure out how to get the best from each child. It’s definitely not a “one size fits all” approach; each lesson is tailored to the child. The confidence they get from playing the piano feeds into other areas, especially school. I would highly recommend Jo if your child is interested in learning the piano. (Rosie) | ![]() StefanHaving online lessons with Jo is fun! She is very helpful and patient and you learn a lot. (Stefan) My son has been having online lessons with Jo for over a year. Initially we just thought it would be good for him to learn the basics of piano. Since then, Jo has encouraged and taught him so much that he just passed his Grade 2 exam this summer. We have found it very easy to communicate with Jo and the online system is very well organised. (Bianca) | ![]() BethanyMy daughter has been having piano lessons with Jo for several years. She is very quiet but Jo has worked really hard with her and has always been very supportive, encouraging and positive. Jo is very professional, reliable and approachable. ![]() JaneYou are a brilliant music teacher, so patient and encouraging, I always look forward to my lessons and I'm always giving your name to people who are interested in learning music! (Jane S) | ![]() JacobOur son has been undertaking piano lessons with Jo at Newmarket Music for 5 years now. Jo has helped and supported through many practical and theory exams and has had a major role in developing and encouraging our son with an all-round love of music. Jo has the perfect combination of patience and encouragement and we would wholly recommend music lessons with Newmarket Music. (Naomi) | ![]() AlanaJo is an excellent music teacher. My sister and I have learned so much piano techniques with her. She is patient and gives the best advice. She is great and we have a great time with her. We learn lots of new things every lesson. For example; she taught about flats and sharps which (at the beginning) I didn’t know what they were. She encourages us and helps us find our true potential in piano. She is the best. (Alana) |
![]() ErinMy daughter's piano playing has flourished under Jo's care, and she has gone from strength to strength over the several years that she has attended lessons. Jo even helped my daughter to achieve a music scholarship at a local school. It's not just about the piano playing with Jo; it's also about consistently supporting the child through the ups and downs of the learning journey. (Rachael) | ![]() AbigailShe’s great and amazing and I have lots of fun with her all the time!! (Abigail) | ![]() Elsie"Elsie has been having piano lessons with Jo for 4 years. Jo has been a huge inspiration to Matilda always finding fun ways of keeping her engaged and encouraged. So happy we found you Jo!" (Fatima) | ![]() Tom"Jo has been teaching my son to play the piano since February 2012. Lessons are conducted in a fun but sensible way. As a result, my son is very happy to attend, learns quickly and has made excellent progress. Jo is very skilled at sensing when my son doesn't like the piece of music he has been asked to play or is frustrated and will react quickly to find an alternative piece or way of teaching". (Helen) | ![]() Bea"My 7 year old daughter has been learning piano with Jo for 14 months. The different mix of scales, sight reading, practice pieces and music theory in lessons are taught with expertise, enthusiasm and an element of fun. Jo is very good at gauging my daughter's mood and tailoring the lesson appropriately. I have found Jo a very warm and empathetic person and our daughter's superb progress and interest in music is the result of Jo's continued patience and encouragement". (Rebecca) |
![]() ErinJo is everything you look for in a piano teacher, especially as far as kids are concerned. She is patient, kind and supportive, but also has a rare knack of being able to dispense sufficient discipline to make sure that your child does what they're supposed to be doing, without even realising it. (Rachael) | ![]() Poppy"I have 3 children (aged 10, 8 and 5) who have weekly lessons with Jo. All three thoroughly enjoy their lessons. Jo is an excellent and very patient teacher who everyone looks forward to seeing, as she teaches with a lot of humour and has managed to really encourage an enjoyment of music. Jo is able to adapt her teaching to suit their three totally different styles of learning, and we are lucky to have her. A PS from my 10 year old daughter:" "If you are struggling she always helps you". | ![]() Rachel"Our daughter has been a pupil of Jo's since last August. She really enjoys her lessons and when we asked her what she liked about them, she replied that, "I learn, I laugh and have fun." Jo is kind and takes the lessons at the pupil's pace, keeping them confident. Our daughter recently passed her grade 1 with Distinction". (Julie) |
![]() Holly"My daughters started as complete beginners and since Jo has been teaching them we have seen a consistent and rapid improvement in their ability. Jo pays particular attention to detail and ensures that they practise the underpinning scales and theoretical knowledge every week. Most importantly, Jo is patient and not at all intimidating and my children thoroughly enjoy their lessons and are clearly delighted by their new found musical ability" (Carly) | ![]() EllaJo organised a Christmas concert last year and my extremely nervous 6 year old was happy to perform a piece. This is something that I did not think she would do, but due to Jo's constant praise and encouragement my daughter has developed a new found confidence that we would not have thought possible at her age". (Carly) | ![]() Paige"I have two children, a son of 10 and a daughter of 8 who have been visiting Jo for piano lessons. The children are really enjoying their lessons with Jo - she is a knowledgeable music teacher who uses her quietly spoken style with friendliness and patience to teach them. She covers a variety of topics/styles within each lesson which keeps their interest for the full half hour (scales, pieces to practise and sight reading)". (Michaela) |
